2023.12

The origin of the NOMAD Tracker is based on user feedback and our desire to provide the easiest-to-use, most portable, inexpensive star tracker.

Difference between NOMAD and MSM Rotator:

  1. Improved attachment points. The previous manufacturing tolerances were fine for Astro-landscape but deep-sky needs a firmer foundation.

    1. The MSM Rotator, due to its design, required specific weight positioning to keep the ball head secure; this has been completely eliminated.

    2. The laser now screws into the tracker eliminating any chance of wobble.

    3. The industry standard quick-release plate on the bottom is secured in 2 places preventing any twisting of the tracker on its mount.

  2. Improved load capacity.

    1. The hardware has been built to withstand twice the amount of torque as the MSM Rotator.

    2. Where the MSM Rotator was only designed for wide-angle Astro-landscape, the NOMAD has been designed with wide-field deep-sky use in mind.

    3. Availability of an optional counterweight system for more experienced users to go even deeper.

  3. Simplified operation.  By designing and building a device with a narrower focus we were able to make it better while keeping the size down.

    1. One 3-position switch; Northern hemisphere, Southern, or Off.

    2. In order to improve on our goals of ease of use and portability, the non-tracker function of the MSM Rotator has been left off, greatly simplifying the operation of the new tracker.

    3. The NOMAD is focused on one function, star tracking.   (NOMAD does not have timelapse mode)

  4. Reduced size and weight.  A foremost feature of our trackers is portability.

    1. Our users take our trackers with them even when backpacking to some of the most remote areas of the world.

    2. We worked to make storing and transporting the tracker even easier so you'll always want to have it with you when traveling.

    3. The tracker is called NOMAD for a reason; it is designed to travel with you wherever you go.

The Best Portable Star Tracking Solution for Everyone

For novices, we want it to be the best easy-to-use star tracker;

For experienced astrophotographers, we want it to be the most travel-friendly tracker.

But, if users want the old Timelapse functionality, then we may be able to provide pre-orders of the MSM rotator. We’re sorry, but we can not strengthen the star tracker ability and time-lapse ability at the same time. The hardware requirements for improving both of these functions are contradictory.

Best portable tracker ever

Originally I was skeptic if such a small sky tracker could perform as well as traditional devices. To my surprise the Nomad performed just as well as a bigger devices. The fact this thing weighs a fraction of other sky trackers and has a low cost is a win win for me. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to get into tracking. I was using this set up with a z plate and Sony A7IV plus an adapter and a 1kg lens. Total weight was around 2.3kg and I could track up to 4 minutes with zero complications.

perfect tracker

The Nomad star tracker is the perfect first tracker and is super easy to use and well made. It makes getting into star tracking easy and pretty much foolproof. Highly recommended.

Great Product

Used Nomad to track the sun for April 2024 total solar eclipse. It was a challenge to get good daytime polar alignment, but that's not a Nomad issue - the Nomad itself worked very well! So small and compact; very easy to travel with. Waiting for the opportunity for milky way shots! Also, great support from Hannah!

Splited package

Sadly my order was splited into two packages because of EU warehouse shortages. I didnt know that until I asked, where is the rest of my order after only part of it was delivered. There was a quick answer from Hanna with explanation and the second part was delivered within 2-3 weeks from China. Sadly after my vacation. Despite of that, everything seems to work fine (just the arca-swiss plate of rotator doesnt fit in all clamps (eg. peak design) - too thick bottom part of plate).

MSM Nomad

Super easy to set up and a great addition to my Astro set up and for an old telescope with a mod on the mount. Easy going tracking

Great initial impressions!

I've had my NOMAD tracker for about a month now. Preliminary data on a few clear nights are looking awesome. I love the portability, ease of use and the rock solid tracking even with a big 200mm lens. Thanks MSM!

Una gran mejora respecto a la Rotator y una portabilidad excelente.

La MSM Nomade soluciona algunos de los problemas que tenía la Rotator. Sin duda una gran opción para tracker de viaje, gran portabilidad y peso reducido.

Loving the NOMAD

I have been shooting with the MoveShootMove for a few years and recommend it to my students. I received the NEW NOMAD about three weeks ago and I went out last weekend and I'm very impressed. With the extra torque I had no problem with star trailing. Nice round circles stars even with a 50mm at 2 minutes!!!
