I initially began star tracking with the MSM tracker, but I have since upgraded to the Nomad. The transition to the Nomad represents a significant leap forward. The compact size and reduced weight are major improvements, particularly for someone like me who travels frequently. The ease of use and functionality are truly impressive. I highly recommend the Nomad to anyone who is serious about star tracking.

This is my first tracker. So I'm assuming that any defects are user defects, not gear defects. I have used the NOMAD four times.

Two of them were very successful. I took a picture of Andromeda. Tracking over 80 and 60 minutes.

Two of them, were a total flop. The first time, I tried to understand how it all worked. The second time (although it was the third time), I could not get an accurate polar alignment. I noticed that the difference between the direction determined by the laser and by the polar scope was significant. Depending on how you screw it in, how precisely you place it in the hole.... Everything matters though. That's why (before the next time) in the daytime I set the polar scope so that the laser points in the center of its dial. I had to use a bit of tape to do this, because the slack on the mount is significant and if you misplace the polar scope, it can point in any direction (within a few degrees). I don't know if this is how I should set the polar scope, but only then, after an hour of tracking, the polar star was where it should be (regarding the information from the app at the beginning and end of this period). So the tracker is working correctly.

I am using not very heavy equipment. About 1.8 kg in total. Focal length 200 mm. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to increase the focal length for times of about a minute of exposure. At 200 mm 1 minute works ok, but I will keep trying. Only dark skies I need.

I'm relatively new to astrophotography, and after doing a bit of research I decided to invest in the MSM Nomad. I have not had any previous star tracker, but my first impressions were - compared to a friend's kit - that the unit was very portable and easy to set up. So far I have used it twice. The first time was a bit of a disaster as I rushed out to use it on the first clear night, without reading any instructions about where to point it, etc. So not a fair trial. Second time was MUCH better - I understood now how to align with Polaris, etc - and the results were very very good. I think I will need more time to get used to it properly and to find the best set of settings to use it with - I am not used to being able to shoot for 2+ minutes without star trails, and so picking the best ISO, etc needs a bit of work. But it's easy to set up, amazingly portable, and I'm looking forward to getting to know it a lot better. Last point, I almost forgot, it's great value. I'm sure more expensive devices have - possibly - more advanced features, BUT in terms for value for money I can't imagine better than the MSM Nomad.

A nice, sturdy metal casing. Unfortunately, I don't have the right thread size, so I'll have to improvise a bit, and maybe specify what you need in the documentation. I live in Germany, where laser pointers are only allowed up to 1mW, yours has 5mW, maybe you can specify a different one.

It's so portable, very easy to setup and wow the results are awesome. Pin sharp milky way stars in a 2 minute exposure. This has simplified my editing which was the biggest surprise for me. I highly recommend the MSM Nomad.

It‘s easy too handle I would by it again.
