Quick Polar Finder for iOptron Skyguider Pro

Introduction

Polar aligning with laser pointer is intuitive, convenient and starter friendly, but it's only possible with Move Shoot move star tracker up to now. We want to share the pleasure of laser with other popular star trackers, namely, SkyWatcher Star Adventurer and iOptron SkyGuider pro.

Introducing Quick Polar Finder. Attach it to your equatorial mount, aim the laser beam for Polaris and you've got a fairly close alignment. For Astro-landscape photography, you are good to start shooting right away. For deep space object photography, simply take the Quick Polar Finder off and do an accurate alignment with the polar scope. In either case, you get to shoot the sky in much less time and probably save your back in the long run.

Installation

1) Remove the cap of the pointer

2) Screw the pointer into the adapter

3) Mount the Quick Polar Finder to the polar scope port of Skywatcher Star Adventurer*/ iOptron Skyguider Pro.

*For the Skywatcher Star Adventurer, when properly installed, Quick Polar Finder will not be perfectly aligned with the polar scope. This is normal and it's been tested that the laser beam will go straight through the polar scope, thus not affecting polar alignment.

Skywatcher MSM Laser Kit Streamlines polar aligning of your mount or star tracker

Last week I used the laser kit on my Skywatcher EQ-35 Pro and HEQ5 Pro mounts to initially point them toward Polaris. This let me do a faster, course orientation of mounts toward the North over my usual process of doing this by hand or using an app called PS Align Pro. When I then did my fine polar alignment with an ASIAIR & guide scope., the process was much faster since I started with equipment set up already properly aligned. I really like the feature that this same laser kit can be using on these mounts and my Star Adventurer star tracker. If you can see Polaris where you use your star tracker, the laser kit is a handy device to have.

The MSM Laser Kit works!

This device is advertised as a time saver. It works! In a Bortle 3-4 zone, I'm not always sure where Polaris is. Set my Star Adventurer (2i) to the proper coordinates, affixed the MSM Laser to the SA, turned it on, and followed the laser to its end with binoculars. ...Voila! Polaris was in the binocular view. All in 5 minutes or less. I appreciate devices that do as they claim. This one does.

Laser mount

I ordered the laser mount for the Sky Watcher Star Adventurer 2i for polar alignment and it came without the screw that it should come with. I sent MSM an email advising them of the missing screw. It's now in the mail. Thanks MSM.

Alignment laser with SA Mount

Item seems solidly made. My delivery was missing the thumb screw to tighten onto scope tube, so I had to source that myself. There is some play in the mount when attached to the scope tube. Tightening the thumb screw will cant the laser a bit. I have yet to try and see if that makes a difference in aligning with Polaris.

Makes polar aligning FAST

Yes you will need to check local laws, in your country, to be sure that the use of this laser is within the law... and commonsense should tell you you do not... point it at other people, cars aircraft etc... That being said, it makes aiming your mount at Polaris, a piece of cake... As with the right angled polarscope attachment, I've not had the change to properly test it yet, but have tested it and it is very visible. Dark skies will come eventually...

It really works! Also consider using the 90 degree ‘back saver’

Used with my SkyWatcher Star Adventurer, initial polar alignment is extremely quick and efficient. Securely attaches to the eye piece housing. I then use the 90 degree ‘back saver’, which also securely attaches to the eye piece housing, in conjunction with the polar align utility within the SAM console app and can finish polar aligning quickly and smoothly which craning my neck at tough angles. Both of these attachments are not gimmicks, they actually work! Set up and capture of Orion Nebula in under 10 minutes

Pro-MSM Laser Kit

I recently picked up a Star Adventurer 2i tracker and was told I needed to pick up this laser to help make the polar alignment a lot easier. And boy was it! Having this laser made lining things up a snap! Highly recommend!

UNBELIEVABLY easy to calibrate to Polaris with this attachment!

I've got an iOptron SkyGuider Pro celestial tracker and this has been a game changer for me. During my first shoot with this laser kit earlier this week, I was able to polar align in less than 30 seconds and got amazingly crisp images. Before this, I found the proper polar alignment process to be incredibly frustrating and the "eyeball" technique pretty rough.
On this shoot, I was with a deep-sky telescope photographer who was also amazed at how quick and accurate my setup was.
("...man...it takes me at least :10-:15 to polar align my scope and you did it in less than 1/2 a minute!...")
btw - my laser kit did arrive out of alignment but it was very quick and easy to calibrate it to dead center, especially after I watched a YouTube video that highlighted a simple fact:
When the laser is aligned correctly, the green point will not move as you spin the pointer on its axis. Alignment controls are simple screw head adjustments and the entire process of alignment took me all of about 3 minutes.
