Difference between NOMAD and MSM Rotator:

  1. Improved attachment points.Ā The previous manufacturing tolerances were fine for Astro-landscape but deep-sky needs a firmer foundation.

    1. The MSM Rotator, due to its design, required specific weight positioning to keep the ball head secure; this has been completely eliminated.Ā Ā

    2. The laser now screws into the tracker eliminating any chance of wobble.Ā Ā

    3. The industry standard quick-release plate on the bottom is secured in 2 places preventing any twisting of the tracker on its mount.Ā Ā

  2. Improved load capacity.Ā Ā

    1. The hardware has been built to withstand twice the amount of torque as the MSM Rotator.Ā

    2. Where the MSM Rotator was only designed for wide-angle Astro-landscape, the NOMAD has been designed with wide-field deep-sky use in mind.Ā Ā

    3. Availability of an optional counterweight system for more experienced users to go even deeper.

  3. Simplified operation.Ā  By designing and building a device with a narrower focus we were able to make it better while keeping the size down.

    1. One 3-position switch; Northern hemisphere, Southern, or Off.Ā Ā

    2. In order to improve on our goals of ease of use and portability, the non-tracker function of the MSM Rotator has been left off, greatly simplifying the operation of the new tracker.Ā Ā

    3. The NOMAD is focused on one function, star tracking.Ā  Ā (NOMAD can be used to take timelapse of the night sky, but it does not have the so called Move Shoot Move timelapse mode of the previous Rotator)Ā

  4. Reduced size and weight.Ā Ā A foremost feature of our trackers is portability.Ā

    1. Our users take our trackers with them even when backpacking to some of the most remote areas of the world.Ā

    2. We worked to make storing and transporting the tracker even easier so you'll always want to have it with you when traveling.

    3. The tracker is called NOMAD for a reason; it is designed to travel with you wherever you go.Ā Ā

Simplicity in use-

Coming off of my EQ6-r, I was able to get this bad boy set up pretty easily. Only caveat I have is to ensure you have a sturdy tripod. I have one that is a bit light and, as expected, experienced some shift/creeping in situ. This said, during a very quick optest (full moon), I was able to EASILY get 1 minute subs. Once I get a sturdier mount, I fully expect Iā€™ll easily be able to get 2-3 minute subs. As it stands, I recommend this product. (I have the laser for polar aligning, but do believe polar finder would be worthwhile to get for more accuracy as multiple you tube videos point out).

So easy to setup, so good results

Really surprised the good results using NOMAD tracker, just using the laser pointer to Polaris star, switch on the unit and start shooting bulb images of even 6 minutes exposure long and the starts are still really defined.

Fantastic tracker for wide angle nightscapes

After using a clunky iOptron sky tracker for 5+ years, I bought a MSM Nomad when the iOptron broke. The Nomad device worked flawlessly, and for its size, performed amazing. I was shooting 4 minute exposures with pin point stars. The little Nomad really clamps down on the mount point giving confidence nothing will slip. Loved the associated laser pointer I got with it. Made Polaris alignment super simple. I used the tracker once since I got it, June 2024, and looking forward to going out in August to shoot some vertical MW images with it.

Lightweight, simple and easy to use

I have had the MSN Nomad for a few weeks and I can only say good things about it. This start tracker is lightweight, simple and easy to use. In combination with the laser, it makes polar alignment very quick and simple. And you can track the stars at least for 2 minutes without any star trailing. I don't think you can ask for anything else when you are under the stars.

Easy to Set Up and Use. Delivers Great Pictures.

Very easy to use with clear instructions and videos on YouTube. Purchased with the laser pointer and polar scope which makes alignment so easy. Iā€™m still learning how to get the best pictures but even the first ones I have are far better than trying to get shots without it.
Would recommend this to anyone wanting to get great star and astro shots.

Excelentes productos

Star Tracking Made Easier

Iā€™ve enjoyed using this tracker because of its simplicity. The laser system makes polar alignment fairly simple, and having a simple on and off switch on the tracker gets you up and running quickly, unlike some other trackers that seem too dependent on a cellphone app and a Bluetooth connection. Now if the weather would just cooperate, I could do some more night sky photography!

Not for me

After trying, I have decided to stick with my AZ-gti mount. Heavier, but I prefer it for my astrophotography needs.
