For beginners, we want it to be the best easy-to-use star tracker;

For experienced astrophotographers, we want it to be the most travel-friendly tracker.

*A “tracked timelapse” refers to using the star tracker with a shortened tracking time so that the foreground remains less blurred. The user then takes multiple frames and combines them into a timelapse video.

Difference between NOMAD and MSM Rotator:

Improved attachment points. The previous manufacturing tolerances were fine for Astro-landscape but deep-sky needs a firmer foundation.

The MSM Rotator, due to its design, required specific weight positioning to keep the ball head secure; this has been completely eliminated.
The laser now screws into the tracker eliminating any chance of wobble.
The industry standard quick-release plate on the bottom is secured in 2 places preventing any twisting of the tracker on its mount.

Improved load capacity.

The hardware has been built to withstand twice the amount of torque as the MSM Rotator.
Where the MSM Rotator was only designed for wide-angle Astro-landscape, the NOMAD has been designed with wide-field deep-sky use in mind.
Availability of an optional counterweight system for more experienced users to go even deeper.

Simplified operation. By designing and building a device with a narrower focus we were able to make it better while keeping the size down.

One 3-position switch; Northern hemisphere, Southern, or Off.
In order to improve on our goals of ease of use and portability, the non-tracker function of the MSM Rotator has been left off, greatly simplifying the operation of the new tracker.
The NOMAD is focused on one function, star tracking. (NOMAD does not have timelapse mode)

Great little mover

The Nomad is a great compact star tracker, well made and looks robust enough to handle even a 300mm zoom lens. Simple to set up and align with ot without the laser. Fits inside my lowerpro camera rucksack without too much space taken up. I have not noticed any great weight increase in my camera bag with the Nomad and wedge plus the laser and scope.

Hassle free star tracker

I picked the MSM Nomad up last month along with a few accessories and have been taking amazing tracked photos since. I was able to shoot hassle free on my second outing after a shakedown run to work everything out. Highly recommend the Nomad.

Nomad tracker

I recently used my Nomad tracker and found that 20 frames taken with 30-second exposures showed no star movement. The tracking was perfect.

Great tech and fantastic customer service

I’ve had the MSM Nomad for a few months now, and have slowly been building up my kit to improve the experience (strong recommend the Z mount and polar scope phone adapter!). Even for a beginner like me it’s been simple to use once set up (highly recommend watching a few Youtube tutorials and setting up prior to going out!) and has produced some great results.

I have also had a great experience with their customer service- I ordered the wrong piece for the phone mount, and was expecting to have a lengthy email chain and weeks waiting between return shipping and receiving the new item. But they knew instantly the mistake I’d made and offered to just replace the part I had gotten wrong. A+++ customer service and a great product as well!

Great product

This is my first tracker and it was very easy to set up and operate. Furthermore, the size and form factor of the NOMAD makes it very easy to transport.

Nomad mit 3,3 Kilo Setup! Erste Ergebnisse

Habe den Nomad im November 2025 gekauft und immer wieder ausprobiert! Habe mir noch einmal den MSM Heavy Duty Kugelkopf gekauft und ein paar andere feine Sachen, und nach gut zweieinhalb Monaten habe ich erste Erfolgserlebnisse mit dem Nomad! Natürlich habe ich mich auch langsam an diverse PC-Software herangetastet, und es wird langsam alles. Das Foto von M31 ist für mich ein toller Erfolg! Freue mich schon unter dunklen Himmel zu stehen und es erneut zu probieren. Das Tracking ist mitten in der Stadt aufgenommen und dafür schon Recht passabel:)
