    A thank you note

Hi friends! Thanks to Gerry Mulligan, an MSM tracker user, who shared his story in Move Shoot Move Facebook group about the inconvenience of polar alignment, which is especially true for night sky veterans, we were able to hear such a great idea and work on it. Thank you, Gerry!

It may need more polishing along the way, but we can't wait to see how it can help people polar align their trackers. So we are bringing it online for pre-order today!

Use of Right-Angle viewfinder for Ioptron SkyGuider Pro polar alignment scope

I bought this item as an addition to the laser pointer I attach to the polar-alignment scope on my new Ioptron Sky Guider Pro.

I used the camera tracker to image Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) with an unmodded Canon 6D (full frame DSLR) with a Canon 70-200mm L-series zoom lens set at f/2.8, 200mm ISO 1600 (images submitted to Spaceweather.com’s Gallery pages).

The laser pointer and the right-angle viewfinder are great MSM products that saved me a lot of time and frustration. One of my pics even landed on the front page of our local newspaper!

      Right Angle Viewfinder

This viewfinder easily attaches to the polar scope and allows you to take a regular posture and look downward into the scope rather than having to crouch uncomfortably low and look upward.

Right angle viewer for polarscope - a product long overdue

The right angle viewer and nylon connecter is a long overdue product with multiple advantages. First, it saves the user from having to stoop to look through the polarscope during celestial alighment. Second, the height of the tripod can be lowered since the user is now looking down into the polorscope. This helps to further stabilize the tripod against wind. The viewer is a nice addition to the MSM package.

Right Angle Viewfinder for MSM Polarscope

Awesome! Haven't been able to field test it yet, but setting it up is easy and it works well to reduce the need to bend, which is helpful for my back. Going to utilize it when the weather permits. If you have back issues, this will be a huge help, especially on those occasions where setting up for a polar alignment takes longer than one would like. Should have done this a long time ago.

Must have when living far away from Equator.

Living at 60 degrees north, I can not polar allign without Right Angle Viewfinder! My back and my neck and my age etc.

      Compact Tracker

I’ve been using the MSM with moderate success, but needed to request a replacement after the unit I first received failed to track in the N orientation. I documented the issue and submitted a claim, and MSM replaced the unit. Unfortunately, the first unit purchased in time for a trip to the pacific islands and didn’t perform for me but the replacement I received operates (so far) as expected (I ran similar tests on the replacement and found it tracked as expected (see image) in both S and N directions.). But it’s now ‘out of season’ for Northern Hemisphere core MW shooting. I’ll look forward to it operating magnificently next spring, and if I can find the time for a random star tracking before then, I’m hopeful the replacement will perform well and as expected.

      Made polar alignment faster

I try to keep my tripod and tracker close to the ground, that makes polar alignment a real pain. I’m bent over or lying on the ground. I tried the right angle finder along with the laser holder on my Skywatcher Adventure, it made alignment a breeze.
