Why Red-light:
It takes about 20-30 minutes for your eyes to fully dark adapt when doing photography at night. Red light does not mess with that process. Turn on the white light and you have to start dark adapting all over again.
Why Separated button is key?
Below is what Mr.JimDoty says: After leading dozens of night photography field trips, I have decided one of the most frustrating things to have happened is for someone to accidentally turn on white light and ruin the dark adaptation of the whole group. The problem is some headlamps make you cycle through all the white light settings to get to the red LED. That is a terrible design for night photography. So the most essential feature for a night photography headlamp is a separate button to turn the red LED on and off. It is even better if the red LED button is separated from the white LED button.

This is a great headlamp. It has both white and red leds and the buttons to turn them on are separated for easy to use. It’s not too bright not too dim either. Just perfect. You can also tilt the headlamp to different angles for your needs. Battery last very long and works fine even in a very cold weather. I bring it with me everywhere I go for night photography. Highly recommended.
Nice sturdy head torch, good light, just not sure why it blinks? Useful facing back if you are walking or cycling on roads at night I guess, but an extra step when turning it off for night photography use. Note that this is a replacement one, no fuss with my faulty info being replaced, excellent customer service

this head torch is perfect for astro - plus, I've used it in some non photography situations - leaves both hands free to do whatever is needed, great little product. Very happy with it.
The head torch is amazing. Battery lasts for a long time and the red light is very practical for night. The lamp can also tilt forward so you can point the ground without looking down. 5/5 for its price.

I love the MSM rotator. it's small easy to use and tracks very well once you get it aligned right. The battery life is a bit on the short side especially when used in colder environments. I usually get a battery warning after about an hour in the cold.
The green laser it come with for alignment has problem when it get cold. This is a know issue with most green lasers that they begin to emit UV when they get cold. This can be dangerous since propel can't see the UV laser but it can still do some serious damage.
Keeping the laser turned on for about a minute will heat it up enough to begin emitting green light again.
