Z Mount perfect for astrophotography

I was needing something to help with my set up with my camera on a Star Adventurer and this was perfect for giving me a better angle to line up with the Milky Way. Light weight and small - it doesn't take up a lot of room in my camera bag as well and holds my Nikon Z6 with no issues.

Skin texture has changed

From the first time I used it, I knew it was a good idea. I will repeat it from now on.

Very happy

It’s a great, lightweight addition to my camera bag. I use it instead of carrying the heavy base for my star tracker!

Excellent for levelling the ball head after the tracker to make composition easy

Learning from the Master !

I will give the MSM a full review in a month. I live in the northeast US and the weather has not been very conducive for dark sky photography. It so happens that I will be attending a dark sky workshop the end of June in Oregon. One of the instructors will be none other than Alyn Wallace so I hope to learn from the master.

Z/V Mount

I'm so glad I purchased both of these items they are a great help to get the angle right for both of my Canon camera's, one I use with my move shot move and one I use to take manual shots, these are the best things invented. I can get a great angle with the camera without it counterbalancing to much weight on the move shoot move and that's great in keeping a steady camera taking lovely pictures of the night sky.

Accurate and very easy to use

I heard about the MSM from a landscape/milky way photo instructor. I bought it and on my 2nd attempt I got an amazing shot. I booked a trip to Moab Utah and the Arches and used it several days in a row. SUPER easy to polar align which makes this very easy to use right out of the box. I am very pleased with my results for shooting night shots of the Milky Way.

Z/V mount for low angle & astro

a very important accessory to use in night photography! it helps a lot in pointing to the North Star and reducing the weight on the tripod! excellent and recommended!

How to?

To be honest, besides the Astro usage, we've never thought it could benefit the slider users those much until we received the below reviews!

For low angle and macro usage, we've never thought it too.

Thank you for all your brilliant find out.  It encourages us a lot.

Hi Friends,

For months we have been refining a new product designed together with professional landscape astrophotographer, Alyn Wallace (website). Now, we're ready for pre-order.

Below is a quick review of the journey, we hope you enjoy:

On the 14th June 2020, MSM ambassador Alyn Wallace told us that he has an idea for a new star tracker platform to solve the following problems:

The Problem:

- When at latitudes close to the equator it becomes very difficult to use the ball head on top of a star tracker.

-It’s also difficult to do panoramas, regardless of latitude.

The Solution

Adding a “Star Tracker Platform” so that the ball head becomes level. The angle can be adjusted and locked into place and the platform can also be rotated. The platform is a perfect match for the Move Shoot Move rotator but also works with any star tracker..

Later, we researched all the possible alternative solutions, practicing and using, finally came to the first version as below:

1st Version, mainly verifying the mechanism to lock the angled platform and also the rotating base.

2nd Version, Enlarged the center rotation section.

3rd version,

- Wrapped the rotating disc to prevent dust entering.

- Changed screw to handle.

4th Version,

Added more space for the bottom handle, so we can operate with gloves.

And Finally, the final 5th Version, with some minor improvements to launch the production.

Below is the performance of the MSM Platform

V or Z? Which Should You Buy?
The V and Z platforms both solve the problem of having your ballhead at an awkward angle when on a star tracker. So what's the difference?

The V platform is for those who want to save weight. If you're already using a heavy setup you may not have much room to add weight on top of the MSM which has a payload of 3kg.

The Z platform has the added benefit of being able to be used to replace the ball head on a tripod when not using a star tracker at all. You can also use the Z platform as a table-top tripod. So it's an exchange of versatility for a little added weight.
