The idea for the MSM Phone Mount was first suggested by Stephen Dyer, whose feedback and practical experience inspired us to start developing this product.
With continuous encouragement and real-world testing from Mr. Steven, the original MSM Phone Mount was officially launched on August 1st, 2020.
The latest phone mount adapter specially designed for NOMAD was also designed by Mr. Steven, to further improve compatibility and ease of use.
For users in the Southern Hemisphere, this phone mount is especially useful, as there is no bright guide star like Polaris in the Northern Hemisphere.
The MSM phone mount with the phone mount adapter kit can be used in both hemispheres.
By using apps such as PhotoPills or Stellarium, you can search for alignment targets such as:
Polaris / the North Celestial Pole (Northern Hemisphere)
Sigma Octantis / the South Celestial Pole (Southern Hemisphere)
Then simply follow the on-screen arrows to adjust your setup for accurate polar alignment.

Why do I need it?
Here are some common situations when you would like to use it:
in countries like Australia and Switzerland where laser pointers are mostly banned
when buildings, mountains, etc. blocking the sky ahead of you that you could not point to Polaris

📌 Tip: Better Compass Accuracy Smartphone compasses can be affected by nearby metal parts. For improved accuracy, position your phone so the mount sits closer to the bottom of your phone, away from the sensor. Recalibrate your compass if needed.

Thanks to Steven Barnes and Dylan O'Donnell, a new phone mount adapter has been developed to make polar alignment simpler and more efficient. This adapter allows you to securely attach a phone mount to a polar scope, enabling initial alignment through your phone, followed by precise adjustments using the polar scope.

Anxious to use for first time
I am anxious to use my set up the first week of April in Joshua Tree National Park. System was easy to set up and configure, order was received quickly and nicely packed.
