FAQs

Yes, the NOMAD is fully compatible with all DSLR and mirrorless cameras

Absolutely. We offer specific bundles optimized for Southern Hemisphere users.
NOMADĀ Phone KitĀ and Richard's Astro KitĀ are specifically designed to make polar alignment seamless south of the equator.

Yes, the NOMAD features an Arca-Swiss dovetail with a built-in safety stop screw and a standard 1/4" threaded hole for broader compatibility.

The NOMAD star tracker has a maximum payload capacity of 7.7 lbs (3.5 kg). This makes it robust enough to easily handle most standard camera bodies paired with wide-to-telephoto lenses.

Many users can have sharp images even with 200mm to 300mm, but we would say MSM usually gives the best performance with lenses below 200mm.

If you plan to shoot globally, we highly recommend using a smartphone for polar alignment, as it works seamlessly in both hemispheres. The MSM Phone Mount kit
is an excellent, budget-friendly option if you already own a ball head. If you need a complete, travel-ready setup, Full KitĀ Richard Astro KitĀ is our top recommendation.

Starter Kit.

For users in the northern hemisphere, the kit will include a NOMAD tracker, a laser pointer, and a ball head.

For users in the southern hemisphere, the kit will include a NOMAD tracker, a phone mount, and a ball head.

The laser and phone mount is used to do polar alignment.

If you are in the northern hemisphere and you prefer to do polar alignment by using a cell phone, you can also choose the kit with the phone mount.

The NOMAD is designed for star tracking. However, when capturing the moon or the sun, it is also very effective at keeping the object centered in the frame for longer periods. Many of our users use the NOMAD to help them capture the moon and the sun.

Yes. The camera is attached to NOMAD by a ballhead, so as long as you can attach GoPro/DJI Action Camera to a normal ballhead, it will work.Ā

  • Improved attachment points.Ā The previous manufacturing tolerances were fine for Astro-landscape but deep-sky needs a firmer foundation.
  1. The MSM Rotator, due to its design, required specific weight positioning to keep the ball head secure; this has been completely eliminated.Ā Ā
  2. The laser now screws into the tracker eliminating any chance of wobble.Ā Ā
  3. The industry standard quick-release plate on the bottom is secured in 2 places preventing any twisting of the tracker on its mount.Ā Ā
  • Improved load capacity.Ā Ā
  1. The hardware has been built to withstand twice the amount of torque as the MSM Rotator.Ā
  2. Where the MSM Rotator was only designed for wide-angle Astro-landscape, the MOVE SHOOT MOVE NOMAD has been designed with wide-field deep-sky use in mind.Ā Ā
  3. Availability of an optional counterweight system for more experienced users to go even deeper.
  • Simplified operation.Ā  By designing and building a device with a narrower focus we were able to make it better while keeping the size down.
  1. One 3-position switch; Northern hemisphere, Southern, or Off.Ā Ā
  2. In order to improve on our goals of ease of use and portability, the non-tracker function of the MSM Rotator has been left off, greatly simplifying the operation of the new tracker.Ā Ā
  3. The MOVE SHOOT MOVE NOMAD is focused on one function, star tracking.Ā  Ā (MOVE SHOOT MOVE NOMAD can be used to take timelapse of the night sky, but it does not have the so called Move Shoot Move timelapse mode of the previous Rotator)Ā
  • Reduced size and weight.Ā Ā A foremost feature of our trackers is portability.Ā
  1. Our users take our trackers with them even when backpacking to some of the most remote areas of the world.Ā
  2. We worked to make storing and transporting the tracker even easier so you'll always want to have it with you when traveling.
  3. The tracker is called MOVE SHOOT MOVE NOMAD for a reason; it is designed to travel with you wherever you go.Ā Ā
