Purchased the unit based on reviews from an astronomy site. I use it for bird watching with a Questar telescope. Pictures and video are taken through eyepieces that are "Deliteful." I can get steady video and great pictures with only a few seconds of setup required. I like to switch eyepieces during my picture taking, it is only a few seconds and I'm setup to go. It also doubles to turn the phone into a view screen- a lot of people have issues with eye placement through an eyepiece. It's been a great investment, I should have bought it sooner.
Solid, machined aluminum construction makes this thing stay put. Easy adjustment in all three axes. I was able to set it up and capture a first image of the moon through my telescope. Looking forward to trying it with more distant objects. Now if only the clouds would cooperate!
Awesome build quality.
Another thing that I liked is a Bluetooth button to activate shutter. A very big advantage is that it has a hardware switch to turn it off, so the chances of finding it completely discharged after half a year being turned off are pretty low.
Additional things to know about usage:
1. Change of eyepiece requires adjusting phone position. Especially in case of
interchanging between one and quarter inch and two inch barrels.
2. A bigger barrel may provide a wider field of view.
3. Lens flare requires covering the eyepiece from the background light.
4. You can't comfortably use it with Stellarium while you point your phone to the desired location if you're using a diagonal mirror.
5. Obviously your camera controls are limited by your phone camera software.
Summary:
There are pros and cons to this piece of equipment and it will not replace specialized equipment. But for me personally it adds a level of versatility to my setup and allows basically registering observed objects. It is nice to have this adapter if you call your friends to enjoy the observation and they want to take a photo on their own phone.
This seems to be mostly geared towards use on telescopes, but I use it on my microscope eyepiece and it works like a charm. Much better than the cheap plastic phone to microscope adaptors I’ve used before. It’s worth paying a bit more for a better product. It’s solid metal and feels very sturdy. Very easy to use.
Third and final microscope phone holder. This one is solid metal and adjusts every way I need it to. Using mine with a Samsung Galaxy S22+. I'm using an Android camera app called Open Camera because it uses less space. I also use the Samsung camera, very good image quality but it uses more storage. I also use am app called Expert Raw, it has amazing image quality and many different settings options. Open Camera and Expert Raw are both available on the Android Play Store. They might even be free. Check your image quality at the beginning with Open Camera, it has a tendancy to overexpose.
Attaching five images so you can see how this one mounts.
Happy microscoping!
I made a 3D printed version of one of these a long time ago and it kind of worked. It was more frustrating than anything, but I did get some good photos. It didn't have the Z adjustment which makes this thing rock!
One person said that it takes too long to set it up so he docked it a star, well, unless you are using it with different phones, once you set it up, it's good to go and will be quick to use the next time.
I love the range of adjustability it has and it's rock solid.
I use it on my Stereo Scope mostly for electronics. For those that don't know, the image with the 470 on it is an SMD resistor that is about 1.6 millimeters in length.
Recently purchased the Tridaptor to use with my Vortex spotting scope while birding. First off, it fits the eyepiece securely. The three axis adjustment allows me to align the camera lens with the eyepiece perfectly. Very quick and easy take on and off. These photos are first day use in my back yard.
This tridaptor is made with excellent materials, it is easy to use and does its job perfectly!

You get a very stable full metal adapter when you buy this one. It holds the phone accurately as well as the eyepiece and you can adjust it in all 3 axes. That's everthing a smartphone adapter needs to do, so: Good job!
I have paired this phone holder with my skywatcher 200p 8 inch dobsonion telescope. It works perfectly, holds my samsung s23 ultra inside its case firmly and the adjustment knobs are excellent for fine tuning the camera lens to the eye piece. I was able to film the ISS pass in front of a 98% moon.
Construction is soild and I am happy to place an expensive phone in this holder knowing it will hold it without fail.
Out of the box the adaptor worked as advertised, in the hands of a person who has a working knowledge of how an image is projected into space between the phone and the eye piece of the microscope. This being the critical adjustment. The other two adjustment are a piece of cake. The only down fall is the actual phone used to take the pictures. Mega pixels are just not there to produce quality enlargements. You can project these images for lectures and they look great. Basically as far as quality of the image produces a camera is better than a phone camera, but I digress. The product is really great.
This is the only adapter you need, period. Built like it says, functions like it shows. Actually holds the phone still AND parallel to the eyepiece. Also very easy to change eyepieces and keep your camera centered. Tried the Celestron NexyZ mount first, had trouble getting any good pictures because of alignment issues, I would have to hold the phone up in the bottom to get the eyepiece on the camera. This is a game changer already, can't wait to see the sky tonight, and actually be able to capture what I'm seeing! Buy it, you won't regret it.
I've already owned two other adapters and this one is clearly the best for several reasons:
- All metal , very stable but light at the same time
- Fine tuning of each of the three axis
- Comes with a bag so easy to store and transport with you
- Optional bluetooth shutter for stable images
TRIDAPTOR can be a very useful gadget for lovers of astronomical observations and recording images using a smartphone. What attracts attention is the very high quality of workmanship. different types of screws allow you to orient yourself in the dark. The smartphone is held very securely, but the handle could be improved so that it cannot be positioned off-axis. I think I will use TRIDAPTOR often in various situations. The bag in which you can pack the adapter and put it in your pocket is fantastic.
