One Little NOMAD, Four Big Possibilities

With just one compact device, you can capture

  1. Milky Way
  2. Deep sky objects
  3. Tracked timelapses*
  4. Moon and sun in frame longer

For beginners, we want it to be the best easy-to-use star tracker;

For experienced astrophotographers, we want it to be the most travel-friendly tracker.

*A “tracked timelapse” refers to using the star tracker with a shortened tracking time so that the foreground remains less blurred. The user then takes multiple frames and combines them into a timelapse video.

Specification:

Body Weight: 0.95 lb (430 g) with rechargeable Li-Poly battery
Max Payload: 7.7 lb (3.5 kg)

* Thank you to MrRat.com for their consultation throughout the design and production process, and for the naming recommendation.

*Please note that NOMAD only does not come with laser adapter or polar scope mount.

Difference between NOMAD and MSM Rotator:

  1. Improved attachment points. The previous manufacturing tolerances were fine for Astro-landscape but deep-sky needs a firmer foundation.

    1. The MSM Rotator, due to its design, required specific weight positioning to keep the ball head secure; this has been completely eliminated.

    2. The laser now screws into the tracker eliminating any chance of wobble.

    3. The industry standard quick-release plate on the bottom is secured in 2 places preventing any twisting of the tracker on its mount.

  2. Improved load capacity.

    1. The hardware has been built to withstand twice the amount of torque as the MSM Rotator.

    2. Where the MSM Rotator was only designed for wide-angle Astro-landscape, the NOMAD has been designed with wide-field deep-sky use in mind.

    3. Availability of an optional counterweight system for more experienced users to go even deeper.

  3. Simplified operation.  By designing and building a device with a narrower focus we were able to make it better while keeping the size down.

    1. One 3-position switch; Northern hemisphere, Southern, or Off.

    2. In order to improve on our goals of ease of use and portability, the non-tracker function of the MSM Rotator has been left off, greatly simplifying the operation of the new tracker.

    3. The NOMAD is focused on one function, star tracking.   (NOMAD does not have timelapse mode)

  4. Reduced size and weight.  A foremost feature of our trackers is portability.

    1. Our users take our trackers with them even when backpacking to some of the most remote areas of the world.

    2. We worked to make storing and transporting the tracker even easier so you'll always want to have it with you when traveling.

    3. The tracker is called NOMAD for a reason; it is designed to travel with you wherever you go.

Blown away

I did two sessions with the Nomad and was able to shoot deep sky images at 200mm for 60 seconds (Orion complex) and even 300mm for 90 seconds (Pleiades) without star trails after careful alignment. Totally blown away by the results with this simple low cost setup!

Great product with great price

A very good product that works well. Very compact, easy to use, not expensive. A great equipment in your arms.

The Nomad is topnotch

As one of the first users of the MSM rotator I have decided to upgrade towards the Nomad because of the better results. I did not try it, because of the severe light pollution in the Netherlands. In May 2026 I will travel to Portugal where you can find the real dark spots and hopefully the Milky Way shots are of a awesome quality.

Really easy and confident

Comming from old MSM I found Nomad great to track also with no wide lens {100 / 200 mm) and also very really very stable when mount tha camara in it.

Easy to use & compact.

I’m not a tech person, and having said that, the MSM was incredibly easy to use. I’m actually really impressed.

For astrophotography with a wide angle lens, it’s perfect. And to make it even better, it’s super compact, which makes it the ideal travel companion.
