Difference between NOMAD and MSM Rotator:

  1. Improved attachment points. The previous manufacturing tolerances were fine for Astro-landscape but deep-sky needs a firmer foundation.

    1. The MSM Rotator, due to its design, required specific weight positioning to keep the ball head secure; this has been completely eliminated.

    2. The laser now screws into the tracker eliminating any chance of wobble.

    3. The industry standard quick-release plate on the bottom is secured in 2 places preventing any twisting of the tracker on its mount.

  2. Improved load capacity.

    1. The hardware has been built to withstand twice the amount of torque as the MSM Rotator.

    2. Where the MSM Rotator was only designed for wide-angle Astro-landscape, the NOMAD has been designed with wide-field deep-sky use in mind.

    3. Availability of an optional counterweight system for more experienced users to go even deeper.

  3. Simplified operation.  By designing and building a device with a narrower focus we were able to make it better while keeping the size down.

    1. One 3-position switch; Northern hemisphere, Southern, or Off.

    2. In order to improve on our goals of ease of use and portability, the non-tracker function of the MSM Rotator has been left off, greatly simplifying the operation of the new tracker.

    3. The NOMAD is focused on one function, star tracking.   (NOMAD does not have timelapse mode)

  4. Reduced size and weight.  A foremost feature of our trackers is portability.

    1. Our users take our trackers with them even when backpacking to some of the most remote areas of the world.

    2. We worked to make storing and transporting the tracker even easier so you'll always want to have it with you when traveling.

    3. The tracker is called NOMAD for a reason; it is designed to travel with you wherever you go.

MSM Nomad Southern Hemisphere kit

It’s such a great little tracker extremely easy to use and get set up. I highly recommend this tracker. The only minor issue I have had is they didn’t include the low gravity ball head and didn’t tell me it was on back order.

Best for Astro

Allows one to dwell on night sky subjects using low noise ISO levels. Easy to align to the North Star, Polaris, so MSM rotates your camera synchronously with Earth’s spin making the sky appear stationary. Stars are spot sharp without any streaking. Great product. Highly recommend.

Game Changer

Here is a review for the Move Shoot Move Nomad star tracker, based on your experience:
I recently got the Move Shoot Move Nomad Star Tracker, and as my first-ever tracker, I couldn't be more impressed. It has completely changed the way I approach Milky Way photography.
The polar alignment process was incredibly easy, especially for a beginner like me. The laser is a game-changer and makes getting aligned in the dark a real pleasure. I was able to achieve accurate alignment with no hassle at all.
The results speak for themselves. I was able to capture 4-minute exposures with almost no star trails, which is something I never thought I'd be able to do. This tracker has unlocked a whole new level of detail in my astrophotography and has made a noticeable difference in my images.
If you're new to star trackers or looking for a portable and easy-to-use option, I highly recommend the Move Shoot Move Nomad. It's a fantastic piece of gear that delivers on its promises.

Ticks all the boxes

The MSM Nomad is a game changer! No more lugging around a heavy star tracker, counter weights or power supply. I particularly like the built in battery and single on/off switch. I don’t need to wrestle with a phone app just to start or stop tracking (as I used to do with my old star tracker)… just slide the switch to the North or South position to start tracking. Excellent!

My 2nd tracker

Outstanding piece of kit, and the phone holder works really well. First attempt I have successfully shot a tracked pano, 3mins each frame with no star trailing. Light & super portable

A superb tool for astrophotography

I used my recently purchased Nomad tracker for the first time this weekend. Setting it up and aligning it with the laser was a breeze (watching how-to videos on YouTube did help). I managed to capture pinpoint stars at 180-second exposures using an F/2.8 lens and ISO 320. There's no need to invest in an expensive F1.4 lens right now. Please see the attached image straight from the camera (only resized in PS). Highly recommended!

First time ever

I am an experienced photographer and just attended a Milky Way workshop in the Badlands of South Dakota. This equipment worked very well a d most attendees had this setup. The weak link was which ball head was attached to the nomad which attaches to the camera.
Lining up Polaris was ridiculously easy and straightforward. My shots came out super sharp when I was star tracking. I'm already planning my next photo trip with this gear. Image is raw photo with no editing yet. 15mm, f/4, ISO 800, 240sec

It works perfectly

Not fully used yet, but after some test is good. Laser collimation also very easy
