Descrizione

-
-
I was looking for an efficient wedge (including size and cost) for my Dwarf3, which could make my life easy to polar align in the dark. The MSM one proved to satisfy this goal. Just one point to improve : the lever used for locking the elevation angle is too long for it to rotate freely under the Dwarf3. A knob with a proper grip would be a useful replacement. Hence the missing star to reach the maximum score of 5.

I use the MSM Wedge & 360 Panning Base for polar alignment on my Dwarflab 3. It makes polar alignment much easier to get to 0 deviation quickly. The quick connect stays on my D3 and makes connection much easier too.
For several years I’ve used a geared head to align my MSM Nomad with Polaris. Whilst it worked very well and gave accurate results, it was bulky which made travelling with it a bit of a pain.
I finally took the plunge and splashed out on a Nomad wedge and have been pleasantly surprised by it. Build quality is very good (as you’d expect from Nomad) and it’s very easy to set up and use. Once fitted to a levelled base (very important!), the wedge controls make it easy to adjust the direction and elevation of the wedge. Whilst a geared head would still be my preference when weight isn’t an issue, the compact size and lightweight design of the wedge makes this an excellent alternative. It’s also a lot cheaper than a geared head so that’s another plus!
I'm totally new to astro-photography. After several years taking some amateur "decent" shots of the Milky Way with my phone, I was disappointed that only short exposures could be used -and even at 10secs one could already see a slight signature of the trails of the stars. I wanted to explore the next level, and a colleague expert in astro-photography recommended the NOMAD tracker. As I was travelling to Patagonia, I wanted something light, portable, and easy to use, so I gave it a try. And in fact, I could take thrilling pictures of the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds using my phone on the NOMAD tracker. It is amazing how well it works, how easy it is to align (I also used my phone and astronomy apps to align it), and how reliable it is! It was definitely a game-changer for me. Now I really want to go for more serious photographic equipment and spend more time out there tracking the stars!
The polar wedge makes alignment so much easier than before. This is a great addition to my kit.
I like this wedge. Easy to set up, and works great with my S50. I also like the ability to spin it to calibrate the compass on the scope. Recomended
You own a Nomad Tracker? Or a smartscope like the Dwarf II/III or S30? And you want to track in EQ Mode - than this wedge is a no-brainer!! Go for it! It’s precise, stable enough, affordable - and I should not forget to mentioned that it’s SwissArca clamp is very convenient for such use-cases!
As i commented the Nomad's light weight and compact size in my initial review, i have taken it with me on my trip to Australia. I have used my Fujifilm X-H2 + XF70-300mm on it and extended the lenses to the largest focal length (full-frame equivalent 450mm), it worked well at least with 20s exposure, just wanted to be safe, and I got most shots usable with fairly round stars. I got my first ever M42 photo! I trust it could certainly work at longer exposure time at this focal length but I didn't have a chance to test it before it got cloudy... Overall I'm really satisfied with this product. Great for travelers and beginners astro fans. But i still urge them to offer a case for carrying it along with all the necessary accessories, which is not easy to find from other places.
