The Levelling Base glides across its range of movement in a smooth manner.
It has limits, though. The tripod still needs to be stable and reasonably level, within, say, 10 degrees or so. The range of the level won't account for a sloppy setup, 20-30 degrees out of alignment and an off-balance tripod. It does, however, assist greatly in refining a quick by-eye setup of a stable tripod. It won’t perform miracles.
I was very impressed with the quality and simplicity of this addition to my tripod. I use it frequently. The only improvement I can think of is if it could be ordered in both 1/4’ and 3/8’ threads so that thread adapters were not necessary. Apart from that, it is faultless.

The MSM Tracker was a perfect choice of tracker for my Capture the Atlas trip to Moab, Utah this spring. The tracker worked perfectly and was easy to set up and take down in the dark. I am a real novice at night photography, so having a very reliable tracker made the night astrophotography trips so much more enjoyable. The CTA guides were very familiar with the MSM tracker and helped me quickly set up and photograph various wMilky Way sites in the dark sky areas of Utah’s state and National parks. I have enjoyed using this tracker and hope to use it for many years.
