Although the laser kit's website says it's not compatible with the Ioptron Skyguider Pro+ipolar, I disassembled the ipolar and the laser kit fit perfectly. Now it's time to get out in the field and try it out. Thank you for this easy equipment.
I am new to using IOptron Skyguider Pro, and was having a hard time polar aligning. Then I saw this mention on Facebook, so I decided to try it.
It made it so much easier to get on to Polaris. Got exposures at 180sec!!
I have recently picked up a Sky-Watcher Gti as a more weightier mount for the back garden,
Normal sketch with these trackers I struggle to make that all important polar alignment.
As I already own the MSM Nomad as my lighter weight portable tracker, the Laser pen that comes with this option & simply screws to the back of the mount is amazing, so when I saw that MSM offers a laser pen for the Gti, I ordered it straight away along with a MSM lens warmer.
As with all my orders from MSM, it turned up in good time, with plenty of com’s to let me know what’s happening with the order & delivery,
It’s such a simple but very clever little addition to the laser pen, and the fact that you can just pop it over the Gti view finder, pinch the grub screw up and away you go, the green light shines through the Gti’s viewing tube and makes alignment so much easier and stress free, once Polaris is in the view finder, I usual hope into the SynScan app to make those all important adjustments with the time clock..
I personally wouldn’t be without it now, a couple of friends say I’m cheating, I can’t see the point in flaffing around in the dark trying to find Polaris.
I’m very happy to watch them fiddle, while I’m already set up and capturing the night sky targets . 📸🌟
Received the laser pointer very quickly, and have experimented to set up for night sky photography, i found the set up to be very efficient and was able to get a photo with very clear stars well worth the purchase.
I found this polar alignment guide to be extremely useful, especially when using a low tripod for widefield Milkyway shots. It is easier to get a rough polar alignment and fine tune it after. Highly recommend!
Works as advertised flawlessly. However, the battery door design is poor. Removing the attach screw is almost impossible to not drop it. It would be nice if the Skywatcher was offered in a bundle. Like offering a laser for polar alignment, 90 degree eye piece, camera mounting brackets and maybe DSLR camera remote release cables.
Bought this for my newly acquired Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer 2i and have yet to use PS Align Pro or even look through the unit so far. Last night up in Joshua Tree NP I was able to click the polar finder to get a "pulse" . . . a temporary bright solid beam and direct it at Polaris. Made it real easy. The stars in my long exposures of the Milky Way are sharp and even though I fully intend to delve into polar aligning the unit by all the other means this laser makes it so much less intimidating to set up the Sky Watcher and let's me concentrate on capturing the Night sky. Thank You MSM! ( Canon 5D MKIII 16-35mm 2.8L 25sec f/2.8 ISO 1600)
Have used this a few times now out in the field. Attaches to the Ioptron Skyguider Pro easily and has placed the polar scope very close to Polaris with just small adjustments required. This item has made polar alignment very easy and can now be completed very accurately within a couple of minutes.
All 3 work better than expected. My polar alignment and pin pointing my dso takes seconds. It's never been faster, or easier. I start with my laser pointer. It slips on my polar scope precisely every time. Once I point at Polaris, I slip it off and slip on the right angle viewer. Everytime Polaris is clearly in the reticle. With a little fine tuning of the adjustment screws, Polaris and the polar clock are perfectly aligned. I am able to do everything with my camera already mounted. To find my dso, I use the laser and the Universal Mount Combo. I slide the combination into my camera hot shoe, point it at the dso, and my object is clearly in my lens....so easy and fast. Thanks team, you've made the hardest part so much more enjoyable.
I used the laser, polar alignment March 17th to take 150 pictures of the waxing gibbons moon.
This is awesome for an old feller like me with a busted up back and knees, who doesn’t like to bend down too much. Especially trying to look through that little eyepiece on the polar alignment scope on my star adventurer 2I trying to get close to Polaris.
With this little laser and adapter I can get super close and just have to bend down for final spot on adjustment.
Super quick and easy. Love it.
Thank you MSM.
Yes you will need to check local laws, in your country, to be sure that the use of this laser is within the law... and commonsense should tell you you do not... point it at other people, cars aircraft etc... That being said, it makes aiming your mount at Polaris, a piece of cake... As with the right angled polarscope attachment, I've not had the change to properly test it yet, but have tested it and it is very visible. Dark skies will come eventually...
Used with my SkyWatcher Star Adventurer, initial polar alignment is extremely quick and efficient. Securely attaches to the eye piece housing. I then use the 90 degree ‘back saver’, which also securely attaches to the eye piece housing, in conjunction with the polar align utility within the SAM console app and can finish polar aligning quickly and smoothly which craning my neck at tough angles. Both of these attachments are not gimmicks, they actually work! Set up and capture of Orion Nebula in under 10 minutes
I've got an iOptron SkyGuider Pro celestial tracker and this has been a game changer for me. During my first shoot with this laser kit earlier this week, I was able to polar align in less than 30 seconds and got amazingly crisp images. Before this, I found the proper polar alignment process to be incredibly frustrating and the "eyeball" technique pretty rough.
On this shoot, I was with a deep-sky telescope photographer who was also amazed at how quick and accurate my setup was.
("...man...it takes me at least :10-:15 to polar align my scope and you did it in less than 1/2 a minute!...")
btw - my laser kit did arrive out of alignment but it was very quick and easy to calibrate it to dead center, especially after I watched a YouTube video that highlighted a simple fact:
When the laser is aligned correctly, the green point will not move as you spin the pointer on its axis. Alignment controls are simple screw head adjustments and the entire process of alignment took me all of about 3 minutes.
I took this out in my front yard for the first time and I had alignment within just a few seconds that was good enough for 2 minute exposures. I haven't tried anything beyond two minutes because I'm still using the factory base for the Sky Guider Pro and once I've upgraded to the Williams Optics base for my tracker then I'll try longer exposure times. It's a great product. I'm 6'5" so getting down on the ground to look thru the reticle was a real pain. I'm very impressed with this little setup. It took it a minute to get it from overseas. It would have been nice if they stocked those items in the U.S.
Polar alignment has always been a pain...this laser fixes that and makes it super simple. I have the iOptron Skyguider Pro. I screw it in, shoot the laster, and point to Polaris. It gets me to where Polaris is in the polar scope 100% of the time, on the first try. No going back and forth, hunting, wondering if I have the right star. It's visual, it's simple and it's quick! I then make fine adjustments from there, and I'm off and running. I can't recommend this enough. It's the best $50 I've spent on improving my enjoyment of astrophotography bar none!!!
Love this laser and adapted for my iOptron sky guider pro. As a new user of a tracker, I found polar aligning REALLY hard. Especially loving at a higher latitude. This was a game changer- polar aligned properly within 5 minutes and no sore back and neck!
Nem értem a Skywatcher miért nem gyárt hasonlót sem. Igazán könnyű vele pólusra állni. Sok időt lehet vele megtakarítani, ami rövid éjszakákon nem mindegy.
I use this kit every time I polar align. It’s good for landscape astrophotography and for deep sky after adjusting the alignment slightly afterwards. It’s certainly sped my workflow up considerably and would recommend it to anyone. I even reviewed it on my Facebook page, Northern skies photography. Thanks move shoot move.
