The ball head attachment does not slip al all, I always had trouble with slippage on the original. The screw in laser pointer mount is a great improvement over the previous flimsy attachment bracket. I never used the pano rotator mode so not having it is no loss.
El nuevo MSM NOMAD es más compacto y ligero que el Rotator y muy sencillo de usar. Estará siempre en la mochila para las salidas nocturnas.
The Nomad tracker and wedge works very well. I managed to image nebulae in Orion with 180x15s subs with a 105mm telphoto on an APS C sensor and with a SV220 dual band filter. The tracker perfomed well with a stable drive, very minor trailing occured on 30s exposures. The attached image has been cropped to the main nebulae, but the original included part of Barnard's loop.
As noted by another reviewer the altitiude/declination pivet bolt on the wedge is fully threaded which introduces backlash and play during adjustment. I replaced mine with a cut dwon M6 bolt which has an unthreaded portion, as illustrated. This is a cap head screw but does not slip when the handle is tightened. This plain shaft gives better worm engagment and cuts down the backlash play considerably. MSM should consider this simple upgrade.
It's pretty standard, at least in Ohio, you purchase some new piece of astronomy equipment and you are guaranteed six weeks of clouds .... and besides, it has been really (really) cold.
My first priority is light weight to carry in my camera bag, and it is tracking star’s absolutely mind blowing thanks to Hanna for customer support
After testing it during a couple of months, I can definitely say it has improved the tracking of the MSM Rotator. Thanks to the new toothed rotating base system I could get perfect round stars with a 85mm lens (full frame) during 60", and also 15" with a 135mm.
¡Is smaller but more powerful than the previous one! You still can take astro-landscape shots with wide angle lenses but you also can get started in deep sky photography.
The only negative thing is about the laser pointer because it hits the ballhead or the camera when the gear is mounted on the star-tracker. So you must mount the gear after polar alignment very carefully in order to not to move the star-tracker when handling, because once mounted you'll not be able to confirm if it's still aligned.
Nonetheless, it's still the best option you can find in the market taking into consideration how portable and lightweight is.

The MSM NOMAD is an excellent piece of equipment and it has established itself as a high quality tracker that everybody loves.
The Wedge however currently does not have a good reputation and after using one for a few outings, I found that the Elevation adjustment and locking mechanisms to be extremely aggravating to use due to the "sloppiness" of the mechanism.
After examining it closely I have discovered that there is considerable play in the bolt that acts as a hinge pin. The problem is that this pivot point should have been a close tolerance pin with only the end threaded far enough for the lever lock to screw on. Instead it's just a common hardware store fully threaded bolt.
I confirmed my hypothesis by wrapping a few layers of thin aluminum tape on the bolt and carefully inserting it back in its place so that there no longer is any play. I also laid one layer of tape along the inside of one of the forks to result in a slightly tighter fit. The Wedge now works properly and is very easy to use.
I urge MSM, in order to maintain their reputation as a quality manufacturer, to make a proper pin available to all the users of the Wedge.
All the components have a very good finish, it is easy to assemble and handle, if you have some knowledge about astro photography it is very easy to work with the Nomad. If there are no tutorials where you can quickly learn to work with it. At the moment the Impressions are very good.
Haven’t really put the Nomad Star Tracker in full use yet since the Milkyway is currently not visible but it seems to be working perfectly. The size and weight is great for travel and backpacking. Bravo MSM!
