No more turning the whole tripod for a polar alignment. Well made and works smoothly and perfectly.
The 360⁰ rotator base makes polar alignment that much easier. I use the rotator to ensure the wedge is above the north leg of my tripod. Stability is important. Then, daytime align or laser at night. Then, finish it off with the wedge alt/az bolts. Easy. Quick. !!
I tried out my MSM under my less than optimal Phoenix suburb Bortel 7 sky. I leveled the 360 Panoramic Panning base and used the laser to get a bead on Polaris. Then I used the Polar Scope Align app to zero in on the alignment for my time zone and latitude. Using a Nikon Z7 with my 24-120 lens, I started at 50 mm then 100 mm and found excellent alignment with no star trailing for up to 90 second exposure. I then used my 70-200 mm lens at 200 mm with the same excellent results. I look forward to dark skies and Milky Way season.
I’ve only used the base once since I’ve got it because of bad weather, but it works very well so far !
I just received my Nomad from Move Shoot Move a couple of weeks ago and have been testing it out from my balcony in Sydney CBD. I’m super impressed by the stability over the original MSM rotator. I had huge ‘slippage’ issues with the original rotator with my new camera setup Canon R6mkII with a Sigma 24mm 1.4 Art lens (which is super heavy, compared to the 16mm Fuji 1.4 that I had on my X-Pro2).
Super happy with the results, easily getting a couple of minutes of pin-point stars which is all I will really need for landscape Milky Way images.
Combined with a William Optics wedge the setup is as solid as a rock and still manageable to hike to good locations.
Well done Move Shoot Move, another happy customer.
Another great product from MSM. Smooth when turning. Solid when locked
Works great!
As a newby to the Astro landscape photography world Levelling the camera mount or the wedge is no longer a problem. It really couldn’t be easier to use. An essential piece of kit.
In the last couple years been using the MSM Nomad. It's been a great experience. Like how's It's compact and the services customer is outstanding!
Fantastic addition of having the panning base under your camera. It makes adjusting super easy!
Excellent product!
Makes alignment much easier. No need to move the entire tripod.
When combined with the “Wedge for precise polar alignment”, this Panning Base is the total solution for (big) azimuthal corrections in the alignment process, avoiding the need to re-orient your tripod. I’m very happy with it. Totally recommendable (I’m using it with a ZWO Seestar S50).
Can’t say enough about the panning base and wedge. It makes setting up my SeeStar S50 in eq a breeze. There are nights I take it out to the front pasture and all I need to do is point it to magnetic north using my iPhone compass and it doesn’t require further adjustment. (After the first initial set up the first time I used it). Both appear to be high quality instruments. So glad I went this route for my eq setup.
I bought this in preparation for a trip to dark sky sites in Chile. I also tested it at my home in Wisconsin where Polaris is clearly visible for good polar alignment and just completed my trip to Chile. Overall it’s a very solid performer and I’m delighted with the rotator unit itself. My only disappointment is that the ‘richard tatti dual hemispheres’ package doesn’t include any provision for polar alignment. The additional laser pointer would be a huge help, especially in the southern hemisphere where is could at least be pointed in the general direction of beta octanis. My gear is a digital SLR camera with either 20mm or 85mm lens, with total weight of about 4.5 pounds. One cannot use a standard laser pointer as it needs to fit squarely in a machined recess in the unit to center the pointer over a small aperture (a tube, actually). Over this is a nice small rotator that works very well, but definitely needs an additional laser pointer for polar alignments
The 360 panoramic base is such a useful accessory. Im currently using mine with the MSM wedge just to dial in polar alignment using the lazer. In fact I need another one for my other tripod an camera set up!!
Perfect, a must have for any setup.
You don't know how much one of these is worth until you are out in the field and the convenience of a simple turn of a knob to pan around comes in so handy...so often..! The build quality is bullet proof, and I expect this little piece of equipment to last for years.! Thanks..!!
Very easy to use. Smooth bearing and glide/spin. Pairs well with the Wedge for quick and easy polar alignment.
Makes getting polar alignment a lot easier. Eliminates awkward tripod adjustments.
I recently purchased the Southern Hemisphere Move Shoot Move Star Tracker which I received very soon after. I inspected the kit and found it to be of exceptional quality, but the MSM 360° Panoramic Panning Base wouldn't lock into place. I then sent MSM an email requesting my next action. The answer was prompt and direct. Within a few days I had received a replacement item at no charge. I was amazed at the quality of service and support I received, and I am also thrilled to see how easy the whole system was to assemble and use.
Thank you again for supplying an outstanding product.
After using the star adventurer for a few years I decide that I need something more light and easy to set up in the field and this is it.
