Not easy to set up

Always a pain to get set up but works well. Love the small size and the polar
Alignment is easy

Works exceptionally well - with a learning curve!

The long, 10 day delivery via China Post and SPS was expected so the MSM arrived in a timely manner. Tested both rotations (star tracker and MSM) and worked properly. My real interest is in the MSM function, so I began shooting some MSM timelapse. Took a bit to get everything properly set up. Watch the online tutorials. Quite helpful.

I have several ball heads. Set up with the wedge on a heavy duty tripod and a Siri ballhead worked well.

As I power both my camera (Nikon D500) and my Timelapse+ ramping driver by externam power, I decided to also power the MSM externally. That worked well, as expected. My Timelapse + can drive the MSM, so I connected the two with a TRS cable. Took an experiment to determine which of the two 2.5 mm ports to use, but the camera port worked. And, of course, I didn't set the rotation in the correct direction - learning curve!

I have more experimentation run to learn which MSM step size works best and how to select the rotation angle to get the TL composition I want.

I also have the alignment tools to play with star tracking. Plan to do some in the near future. I have the angle viewer for the scope in transit right now. This should be included in a kit.

Also, the number of 1/4-20 to 3/8th and 3/8th to 3/8th adapters should be increased. Easily lost and you never have enough. 6 of each in the kit would be a real plus.

Overall, exceedingly well engineered and supported. See photos for my MSM set up.

Nomad is a great Astrophotography tool.

If only had Tim to use my Nomad a couple of times and it has produced awesome Milky Way photos. It’s is very small and compact and easy to use. I love it.

Did not do its job. (Was talking about the rotator not the ballhead)

Ballhead was perfect basically 👌🏻

Milky Way Imaging Made Easy

The MSM takes a little figuring out - partly because there are so many choices about how to use it and what gear, exactly, you'll want. Hint: the mounting between tripod and MSM unit is the key part for alignment. I strongly suggest using the Benro geared head, though it's pricey, instead of a ball or the wedge. This is especially true for deep sky stuff where a polar scope will be needed. Second choice would be the wedge, trickier than the Benro but still better than a ball. Ball mount is fine up top for the camera. The Z plate is very handy for improving the adjustable range of the camera itself, once this contraption is assembled. Tracking works perfectly, tack-sharp stars even in the corners with a 3 minute exposure or longer. Not sure about MSM for very heavy gear / long lenses. Will test that later this year.

Z bracket and ball head

MSM service was excellent, the items arrived promptly and in perfect condition, as advertised.
The ball head is great. Light and solid.
The Z brackets are good, but difficult to tighten all the screws, and I lack confidence that it's rigid in use. It could be that I need to learn to use it properly, it's early days.

MSM Ballhead

I bought this Ballhead to use in conjunction with my startracker and Canon 6D as it seemed a solid well built Ball head that was also keenly priced compared to others out there. I was not disappointed as it easily took the weight of my camera with the adjustment knobs being perfect for fine tuning (they are solid and well designed too). The degree markings on the base are very useful for panoramic shooting where you can precisely obtain image overlap for stitching in post processing. This is a great product that I have used in the field and am very happy with it.

Easy to deal with

Easy to deal with, good products, respond to field evaluations, and an actual person actually replies to questions with specific answers

A good tracker

I really like the tracker, however I find that in a breeze the tracker will get off course and I get star trails. It seems that the wind can not be over 2 or 3 miles an hour. On a calm night there is no problem.

Really Light Ballhead

I have the relatively heavy Nikon D850, and the MSM ballhead supports it with no problems. I have also had success with MSM iPhone bracket for S hemisphere alignment. The trick is to "set current position" in Photopils with the phone attached to your rig in the exact shooting position before using “Spot Stars”. I found this much better than trying to use the sun or moon to calibrate. Neither are available on a good Asrtro night anyway.
