 Do I need the star pointer?

  1. If you are a new player, we recommend choosing the star pointer as a start. It's easier to do the polar alignment for new players. 
  2. If you mainly play with a wide-angle lens, then the star pointer is enough and the most convenient for you.

So,

  • For US users, I recommend you just choose the Starter Kit, it will be shipped from our US warehouse directly to you, you can receive it within 4 days. Starter Kit including - Rotator, Star Pointer, Ball head, Laser Holder and Charger).
  • If you are new and have a low budget, you can start with the Basic kit B (including- Rotator, Star Pointer, Laser holder, and Charger).

    Do I need to buy the Polar Scope?

    1. If you play with a long lens, then better add the Polar Scope to do a more accurate polar alignment.
    2. If you are from Australia, then you should buy the Polar Scope due to it is prohibited in Australia to buy the laser pointer.
    3. If you may travel to shoot in Australia or some locations that do not allow laser pointer, then better have one Polar Scope for them.

      The mechanism behind Move Shoot Move star tracker:

      • Earth is rotating.
      We know our earth rotates once every 23h 56m4s. Its rotation axis goes through the Polaris. (almost), stars are not stationary relative to our earth.
      Just as the below photo shows, the stars circle around the Polaris.

      • What happened?
      According to 500rule, we usually couldn't exposure more than 25s, most often less than15 seconds. This leads to:
      1. Many faint stars are missing from our photo.
      2, Ugly stars trails.
      3, The noise ruins our composition.
      • How to expose more than 60 seconds?
      Move Shoot Move tracker rotates at the same speed as the Earth, just in the opposite direction. Then the stars will be tracked, and they will stay in the view. Your exposure time can be up to minutes, and The missing faint stars will show up in your pictures, star trails will disappear, lower ISO helps to solve the noise.       • What's Polar alignment?
      Earth's rotation axis goes through the Polaris. (almost, check the above blue earth)
      So, we need to make the Rotator's rotational axis parallel to the Earth's rotation axis. This is called polar alignment.
      • Is your Polar alignment difficult and complicated?
      I don't know RA, D-dec, and I've never played astronomy? Can I do polar alignment? 
      Don't worry, it's easy-
      • If you already know where to find the Polaris, then just aim the laser at the Polaris, then polar alignment is done😉.
      • If you don't know where to find the Polaris, then download one free app, 'Skysafari,' set it to VR mode. It will spot the Polaris when you move your phone around the sky.
      • How to do a polar alignment in Southern Hemisphere?
      A similar operation, but different stars, here is a tutorial in more detail.
      • If the star is tracked, will the foreground be blurred?
      Yes, the foreground will be blurred. Then how? We change the shooting sequence.
      1. First, we set the tracker OFF to get the clear foreground(your composition).
      2. Then we wait for the ideal stars to show up in our composition, turn the track ON, shoot the tracked stars. Then combine these two pictures to get the final one.

      The mechanism for time-lapse: 

      It works by adjusting the angle of rotation, not the speed of rotation, with seven options: Star Tracking Mode, Time-lapse mode of 0.05, 0.075, 0.1, and 0.125 degrees per picture. Therefore, you control the camera's rotating based upon the angle selected, and the interval set on your timer (you need a separate timer/intervalometer, which is inexpensive). The longer the interval you set, the slower the rotation. Once you are done taking a picture (which the rotator ‘knows’ through the hot-shoe cable), the rotator will turn the defined angle, which means that the camera is not turning while the picture is being taken.
